Magical, this creative activity is inspired by a process borrowed from photography: cyanotype. Using opaque patterns and natural elements of their choice, the child creates scenes on photosensitive paper. After exposure to the sun, the paper is marked with negative patterns. Simply rinse the paper in a bath of clear water, and the scene reveals itself against a blue background! Nature-inspired patterns to create 8 nocturnal and poetic artworks.

The Cyanotype Pictures are then the night scenes forming backgrounds for the 4 poetic pictures and their illustrations.

Everything is included to discover the art of cyanotype printing and is suitable for older children throught o adults wanting to have a go at this old technique.  This technique was discovered in 1842 by the English astronomer and chemist John Frederick Herschel, during his research on the effects of light.

This photographic process is carried out with photosensitive paper which reacts to light and makes exposed areas appear in a Prussian blue colour.
